My work is about color. The colors– the way they work together- define the mood and feeling of the work. I’m an artist who enjoys working with all types of mediums, but my favorites are chalk pastels, acrylics, and mixed media. They provide the desired color impact, fluidity and forgiveness that’s required for my artistic style.
The imagery of my work is based on shape, color and emotion. My artistic intent is for my work to invoke the feelings and interpretations of each individual viewer. The art belongs to the viewer, maybe even more so than it belongs to the artist.
I’m inspired by things great and small. From a large sprawling field of flowers to an old rusty nail. I feel that art should encourage questions from the viewer in a more meaningful, second-look and deeper-thought kind of way. To me that doesn’t mean intricate details and realism. It means breaking images down to basics and arranging them in a way that entices personal reflection and thought. Even if the image is made up of only the simples shapes and colors.
