Introduction to Pastels - 3 part series

Discover your personal artistic style, while feeling relaxed and inspired with the helpful guidance of artist and educator, Sharon Wade; who will deepen your knowledge of beginner pastel drawing.


In Stage one of our pastel journey, you will learn:


  • About the different specialty papers
  • The different consistency, varieties and make up of pastels
  • A wide range of different pastel techniques from broad sketching, color blending, scumbling, composition, texture, etc
  • How to create several paintings of pears and/or apples as you learn to apply these newly discovered techniques


In Stage two of our pastel journey, you will learn:


  • To see the differences in color, texture, value, and shape
  • Explore mark making techniques to create different shapes
  • How to layer and blend pastels to create realistic appearances
  • Block in color for underpainting
  • Create luminous three-dimensional effects


In Stage Three of our pastel journey (from realistic to impressionistic), you will learn:


  • How to introduce underpainting techniques
  • Scumble in clouds and background landscapes
  • Fill in foreground detail
  • Use different mark making techniques to create textures


*Bring along your own personal supplies or purchase one of our kits to get you started
