"Get Out of the Box: Painting with Palette Knives"
I have found that instructing artist with painting knives or as they are sometimes called, palette knives to be hugely valuable. Helping students to Get out of their box. I would even insist that all painters spend a year with painting knives. Painting knives can teach us so much about painting, color, mixing of colors, our approach to painting and creating space with color and texture. The benefits can be appreciated by the STUDIO or PLEIN-AIR painter. This should not be overlooked by any serious painter. All Levels Welcome, Acrylic or OIl Paint. - Daryl Urig
A Few Benefits:
• Help painters to loosen-up
• Adding physical dimension and 3-D texture – or sculpted paint
• Keeps you working on big picture verses niggling needless details
• Painting knives do not wear out like brushes and easy clean up
• Help to mix and lay more accurate vivid colors
• Facilitate a better use of color and shape
• Dramatizes soft and crisp hard edges

"Must Know" Watercolors Workshop
There are four "Must Know" things when you paint with watercolors so you can paint without guessing!
1) Working with Values - learn the basics and work up to practicing advanced skills to create a range of shadows and highlights in your painting. This will give your subject much more depth and interest.
2) Mixing Colors - Learn how to mix and apply colors in a layers to achieve vivid, brilliant colors, and avoid muddy coloration.
3) Moisture - this is one of the biggest problem areas for students! Learn how to move the colors in slow and fast brush strokes to achieve sharp or blurred edges.
4) Composition - One of the keys to successful painting! Let Joe show you how to choose and arrange a successful composition, helping to create movement, balance, and unity in your painting.
This will be Joe's 3rd appearance at the gallery. Joe knows that artists tend to be very visual, so he gives 5 or 6 small demos in addition to his topics that will explain every step of the painting process.
